Strawberry Fields Forever

We are so lucky to have a wonderful little strawberry farm, literally right around the corner.  Arlo and I went 3 times this season!  We still have a few fresh berries from our most recent trip and a few in the freezer, but they go fast around here!

The first time we went this year was with Caroline and Gigi.  It was mid-April and still pretty cool, so we bundled up and went pickin' early in the morning.

In addition to the berry-picking, we visited the chickens, pigs, and cows, chatted with the farm owner as he rode around on a golf cart, and took our time meandering, picking flowers and picking up rocks.

Once we were loaded down with booty, we headed back to the car for a photo shoot.

We had to sample the goods.

Don't these pictures remind you of these from almost exactly a year ago?

What a difference a year makes!

"Haven't you taken ENOUGH pictures yet?"

And then, a smile for mama!

And a little hand-holding action before we part.

This post is somewhat timely...the outing was over a month ago, but our pals Caroline, Matt, and Gigi are moving on Monday.  :(  We are incredibly sad to see them go, but we are so happy to have developed such wonderful friendships.  They are headed to Virginia for their next big adventure and we are so excited for them!  We are hoping for frequent reunions and that maybe our paths will cross again someday!  We love you guys!

Spring Game 2012

The UNC Spring football game was on April 14th this year.  It was the same day as the Chapel Hill Garden Tour.  My mom, Deda, and I met up with my friend Amy for the tour in the morning.  I lugged my camera around all morning and didn't take a single picture.  I hate when I do that!  We saw some beautiful, inspiring gardens that were WAY out of my league.  This one was a favorite, but they were all amazing!

The last house we visited was on Gimghoul so we ladies only had to pop across the street to campus to meet up with the fellas (Charlie, Grandaddy, Arlo, Casey, and Gus) for some pre-game festivities.  It was such a gorgeous (GORGEOUS!) Spring day so we found a nice spot with some shade and some sun and some grass and just hung out for a while.

We played a little football...

Collected a few sticks and rocks...

...which we then gave to Grandma.

We sat in the lush green grass...

 Watched a little basketball...

...and dreamed of playing with the big boys some day.

We had a picnic with Grandaddy and Grandeda.

Ate birthday cake in honor of Liz.

 Ate more cake.

 And a little more.

After a lovely lunch al fresco, we headed into the stadium.  (Could the sky be any Carolina-bluer?)

Arlo was into watching the game for a good 3 minutes.

Then, he discovered the seats.  Oh, the seats.  Look at that face.  Pure glee.

We also did lots of clapping.

 And some dancing.

And some more playing with the seats.  He could not get enough!

On the way out, we collected some more rocks for good measure.

Don't you love how, when you're one-and-a-half, whatever you're doing right now is the coolest thing ever?  Rocks,  basketball, cake, football, folding seats, more rocks ... it doesn't really matter what.  It's all the BEST.

Here are a few more gems donated by Casey - a far more gifted photographer than I.  Obviously.

(Sweet, sweet Gus.  The poor thing was harassed by some actual angry birds the whole time he was there.  Here, I think Arlo was consoling him.)

(That's my freshman year dorm in the background!)

What a perfect day.

Love, Katie
