Whirled Peas

Arlo had his first taste of vegetables on Sunday...peas!

He happily gobbled them right up!

We are so hopeful he will be a lover of vegetables (both of his parents are!).  This was a great start!

He didn't even make THAT big of a mess.

We're doing peas for the next few days, then we'll try a new veggie.

Brussels sprouts?

Allie 'n' Arlo

Aunt Allie and Arlo did some bonding recently.

They read magazines together.

Arlo chewed on the magazine.

They smiled for the camera.

Then Arlo gave Allie a big fat kiss.

"Sit!"

At Arlo's last checkup, the pediatrician asked us what "tricks" Arlo can do.  It makes me laugh to think of it like that, but isn't it so true?  We say, "Wave bye-bye!" or "Clap your hands!" and then cheer when they do it right.  Just like teaching dogs to do tricks...but without the Milkbones.

So our latest trick we're working on is getting "Sit" under control.   He prefers standing, but he's definitely close to conquering the sit.  He can sit on his own for a moment but as soon as he reaches for something or tries to turn around, he topples.

What will our next trick be?

Visit to Hickory

While I was visiting with Hunter in Charlotte (see previous post), Arlo was hanging out with his Hickory grandparents (and granddogs).  He had a super fun day hanging out on the patio, playing with the dogs and visiting with friends and family.

He was worn out after such a fun weekend - he took three LONG naps today!  What a great weekend!

Hunter Merlin Austin

Arlo's new buddy, Hunter, was born on March 26th, 2011.  I went to visit Hunter (and to see Sue and Brian!) this past weekend in Charlotte.  It was a short visit - and a scary drive through a horrible storm that eventually did major damage in the Raleigh area - but it was TOTALLY worth it to meet this little guy.

Calmly checking things out.  Hello, world!

I'm ready for my close-up.

Proud mama.
So sweet and snuggly!

The new family out for a walk.

Sleepytime.

Sleepytime again.  I remember those days...
At first I said something about how it feels like forever since I've held a baby this little.  But then I was reminded that my baby was never this little.  ;)  And Hunter's no tiny thing...he weighed in at 8lbs 9oz at birth and weighs more than that now.  But to me, he felt light as a feather and I do sometimes miss those days when I could *easily*  hold Arlo cradled in one arm like this.

I'm looking forward to watching Hunter and Arlo get to know each other.  They're going to be great pals!

I'm the lucky one

Today after work, Arlo and I hung out in a field of clover (a.k.a. our front yard).

He chewed on his new favorite toy, while I gathered up tons of lucky four-leaf clovers. (Someone bring this girl a lottery ticket!)

The late afternoon sun was warm, but our giant Bradford Pear provided lovely shade.

Arlo split his time between chewing on his toy and attempting to stuff handfuls of clover into his mouth.  Did I mention he has FOUR top teeth that have popped through over the last weeks.  Such a trooper!

Charlie mowed our weeds um, lawn later in the day, so we were thankful to have savored the last moments of a fluffy, soft bed of clovers.

My little redhead

Arlo looks especially red in these pics!  His red(-dish) hair comes in second for what people comment on most.  You can probably guess what comes in first...CHEEKS!  As we're approaching his 6-month birthday...gasp!...we are so amazed at how far we ALL have come.  He is such a happy guy - and continues to get more and more talkative and expressive and fun and entertaining and lovable and I could go on and on...

He loves to play peek-a-boo!

And play with his feet...

And chew on his hands...

And show off two of his SIX teeth!

And make super silly faces...

while standing on Daddy's lap!

I'm so thankful for a day off tomorrow (after working seven in a row!) so I will be sure to catch up on my picture-taking and picture-posting!
